Helen & Fred

The Adventure Continues

I didn’t have time to post anything yesterday.  When you travel with Fred there isn’t much down time.  We went to a town called Marble and guess what’s there?  Yep.  A marble quarry.  We visited the quarry several years ago, but it is now closed to the public.  Big disappointment.  We managed to leave with two small pieces of marble.

Next we traveled to the town of Crystal over 4 miles of horrible road.  Parts are scary, but the trip was worth it when we got to the historic mill.  We continued on to the actual town that is only accessible 4 months a year.  Spent some time with an author that lives there during summer and he told us about a place to find wild flowers.  We took the route and saw the most spectacular display of wild flowers I have ever seen!!!  Every trip we have some sort of surprise site and this was one of the best.

Today we visited Yankee Boy Basin which was my favorite place for wild flowers, but no longer after yesterday.  Yankee Boy was a disappointment today.  There are two plants that are quite ugly that are over growing everything.  They are crowding out many of the other plants.  Somebody needs to do something!!!

we did have a good day though.  It is still fun to drive to Yankee Boy and the scenery is spectacular.  The we went to Imogene Pass which is a rough challenging drive and saw more mediocre wild flowers.  But there were several gorgeous waterfalls.  Fred was able to explore an old mining site and pick up some “garden art” and a few rocks!
